It is facilitated by a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, Rachael Newman. The group is generously
subsidized by the Petaluma Mothers' Club, (PMC). Mothers' Club members pay $10 and non-members pay $20. No one is turned away for lack of funds. The group meets from 10-11:30am every Thursday,
and is open to all mothers who are looking for a place to be real and
honest about their experience of mothering --the challenges, successes and in between places. Mothers can check in about post-partum depression and anxiety as well as other
concerns. Additional referrals for support are provided where needed.

When: Thursdays 10-11:30am

Where: 405 East D St., Petaluma

More Info: Call or email Rachael Newman, MA, MFT

(415) 515-4754, rachaelnewmanmft@gmail.com

Survive and Thrive It is a
confidential space for women to reflect and share -- be deeply listened to, and support one another. When mothers meet each other in that genuine place, it is easier for them
to move toward opportunities for self-care, and to create pockets of
renewal. During
group time we explore the different layers of what it means to be a
woman and what it means to be a mother. We address practical concerns like sleep, nursing and
childcare. We also talk about relationships, social isolation, and how
emotionally triggering mothering can be. We explore what it’s
like to be a mother to children of different ages, and how different developmental ages require different parenting skills. We explore questions
of what’s “normal” and what’s “okay”. We validate the messiness of not
knowing, and we laugh about the absurdity of feeling like we’re supposed
to know more than we do. We explore issues of identity, who we were
before and who we are now. Sometimes we grieve the loss of who we have
been. The women in the group offer support and reflection to each other
in ways that are authentic, honest and non-judgemental. The Survive & Thrive
group has been a huge gift for me, and each week gives me a sense of
connection with other moms that leaves me feeling authentic, sustained,
grounded and positive. It has helped me to make new friends, to speak
openly and honestly about my experience, and to stay in touch with who I
am becoming during this transformation.
